Lafayette school bus routes ran smoothly the first morning, according to the transportation department-- but one furious mom disagrees.
Just one day before school was to start, Amanda Keyser of Duson found out her son would not get to ride the bus like she had originally thought.
"They called me back and told me I do not have bus service. I checked several times over the summer and they said I did, and now I don't, and I'm upset," she says.
Her son, Collin, got into the arts academy at L.J. Alleman, and all summer Amanda called to re-check that a stop was nearby, because they had no other transportation for him.
Amanda says several children in the area need this bus stop, and, after they found out it would not be there, she called the School Board's Transportation Department to try to get some answers.
"We deal with schools-of-choice with designated stops because we're picking up all over the Parish for these schools and we can't go door to door," says Director of Transportation Bill Samec.
He says the situation with the Keysers was a misunderstanding and he will call Amanda to sort it out.
"You're trying to accommodate the parents the best you can, do it as economically and efficiently as you can," he says.
