Mitch Landrieu Planning Run For New Orleans Mayor Job

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Will the third time be the charm for Mitch
Landrieu?
Five months after saying he had no plans to run for New Orleans'
mayor and one day before qualifying opens for the Feb. 6 primary,
Landrieu said Tuesday that he's in.
The announcement follows weeks of speculation that Landrieu
would enter a race that analysts have seen as lacking political
star power.
Landrieu, Louisiana's Democratic lieutenant governor, comes from
a political family; his sister is a U.S. senator, his father was
mayor in the 1970s.
Landrieu himself has made two unsuccessful bids for mayor, in
1994 and 2006, when he lost to then-incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin
months after Hurricane Katrina.
At least seven other candidates have announced plans to run.
Term limits prevent Nagin from running.
