HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says a Mississippi man has drowned in the Tangipahoa River near Hammond.
He says the body of 24-year-old Anthony Quinn of Magnolia, Miss., was pulled from the river about 11 p.m. Wednesday - about 2 ½ hours after he fell in.
A news release says Quinn reportedly panicked after slipping and falling from a sandbar at Carpenter's Landing. Many people jumped into the water to try to save him, but were unsuccessful.
