Sonia Duclion has all the makings of a queen. She's always smiling, athletic, and loves jewelry.
But Midland High School has never had a Valentine Queen like her.
Sonia has spine bifida and has been in a wheelchair her whole life.
"It brought tears to my eyes to think that her peers would nominate her,"said Anna Duclion, Sonia's mom.
"Sonia is a sweet girl. Always has a smile on her face and has a great personality,"said Midland High School's Principal, Clide Briley.
When asked what she though when she won, Sonia said she was surprised and that it felt great.
Her class nominated her, over 300 students voted. She won by an overwhelming margin.
"I started stomping my feet when I saw them putting the crown on her,"said Sonia's aid Wendy Guidry
"I thoroughly enjoyed just seeing her blossom,"said Anna Duclion.
Sonia also got third place at the Acadia Parish Special Olympics.
and sonia actually placed third today in the acadia parish basketball special olympics.
