COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A St. Tammany Parish jury has convicted a Meraux man on two counts of aggravated rape.

The Times-Picayune reports 49-year-old Tam Q. Le faces an automatic life sentence when he returns to court on Nov. 28.

Le was accused of raping two girls, ages 8 and 9, between Nov. 28, 2009 and Jan. 15, 2010 at a home in Slidell. Police say the victims came forward in February 2011 and Le was arrested in April 2011.

Le's trial began Monday in state District Judge Martin Coady's courtroom, and testimony ended Wednesday. Le testified in his defense, telling the jury, he was "shocked" when he was arrested.

The jury convicted Le after six hours of deliberation.
