NEW ORLEANS, La. - The 64th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis clinched the top seed of the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championship coming into the tournament with the league's highest ranking, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
"As a coach, this is the most disciplined team I have had," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "These guys from top to bottom have bought into holding each other accountable to the teams goals and they walk the walk in putting in 100 percent."
Louisiana enters the tournament on an eight-match win streak and is 18-4 overall. The Cajuns boast a deep singles lineup in which six players own double-digit win totals in singles play this spring led by sophomore Hunter Johnson who is a perfect 14-0.
"All we have done at this point is put ourselves in a position to do some things that haven't been done in a while," Jeffrey added. "So nothing has been done yet. This week is like any other. Our main goal is to improve within our daily regiment and seek to get better. As coaches we are looking forward to getting down to New Orleans and getting after it. We live for the battle we wouldn't have it any other way."
The Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championship will be held at the City Park Tennis Center from April 18-20.
The top-seeded Ragin' Cajuns earned a bye in the quarterfinal round and will await the winner of No. 4 seed UT Arlington vs. No. 5 seed Troy. The semifinal match is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, while the Sun Belt Tennis Championship match will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.
On the other half of the bracket South Alabama is the No. 2 seed and awaits the winner of No. 3 seed Georgia State and No. 6 seed WKU.
