Two men are charged with attempting to run over three Iberia Parish Sheriff's Deputies with a vehicle Sunday. Rocky Salazar is charged with attempted first degree murder, Captain Ryan Turner with the Sheriff's Office said he was the driver of the vehicle. Dale Delcambre is charged with principal to attempted first degree murder because he was the passenger.
Turner said the deputies were patrolling the downtown area of New Iberia on foot, walking on Burke Street toward Iberia Street when the vehicle swerved at them at a high rate of speed, attempting to run them over.
The officers dodged the car and were able to locate it at a home on Pollard Avenue. It's there that they located the two suspects and arrested Salazar and Delcambre.
Turner said they don't know what the motive was for trying to hit the deputies, but the charges are more serious because it involves law enforcement.
"It's a different charge, it is added to the charge that it is law enforcement officers and that's taken in to account when it goes to trial," said Turner. "It's a serious charge, definitely."
Delcambre was already released from jail. Salazar remains in the Iberia Parish Jail on $300,000 bond.
