More people than expected are enrolling in Medicaid in Louisiana, adding to an expected shortfall of funds in the government insurance program for the poor.
That's according to state Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine, who told lawmakers on Thursday that 22,000 people signed up for program in the first three months of the budget year that began July 1.
Levine said enrollment has hit 1.23 million people - possibly the highest number ever.
