The young man murdered at his home on McKinley Street in Lafayette has been identified as Kenny Donnelly Jr. (left), of Alexandria. The 20 year old was a freshman at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and was a member of the National Guard.
"Kenny was a great guy, he didn't deserve what happened to him," said Donnelly's friend Taylor Adams, who drove to Lafayette from Alexandria Thursday night.
Donnelly was found dead by one of his roommates just after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, at his residence in the 300 block of McKinley Street, just a few blocks away from the UL campus. Police say Donnelly was the victim of a "physical attack." Another of Donnelly's roommates suffered critical injuries in the attack. Police did not identify that man Thursday night, but say he is 20 years old and also from Alexandria.
"They didn't have any trouble with anybody, they're not the type of guys that would do anything to somebody that they would want to come back and hurt them," Adams said.
Thursday night, police could not say whether the attack was targeted or random, though they are appealing for the public's help. They believe the attack happened sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. If anyone has any information, they're urged to call CrimeStoppers at 232-TIPS.
