New developments Thursday in the McKinley Street murder trial. Thursday District Judge Jules Edwards denied a request to reduce bail for 22-year-old Ian Trahan, one of the suspects in the beating death of a UL student, 20-year-old Kenneth Donnelly Jr., back in October 2010.
"Yes we are definitely in agreeance with the court's decision today," said prosecutor Pat Magee.
Trahan has remained in jail since his arrest on January 20, 2011, with a $450,000 bail. According to sources, defense attorney Thomas Guilbeau requested lowering his bail, saying Trahan is a college student who doesn't have the means to meet the current bail.
In court, Magee argued that he was concerned about Trahan possibly being released while the other victim, Rufus Fells, is also out in society.
"We're always concerned about any victim of a crime," said Magee after the court hearing.
Sources report that in his ruling, Judge Edwards stated he "sees no reason to modify the bail at this time." Which is a positive sign for Magee as his case moves forward.
"All we're concerned about right now is Mr. Trahan being judged by a jury of his peers," said Magee.
Trahan is due back in court on April 5, 2011, for his arraignment. He is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
