Hazel McCrae-Sias is the new school board member for St. Landry Parish's District 10.
The former educator defeated interim board member Steven Woods in Saturday's election, taking 66% of the vote. McCrae-Sias took 319 votes, while Woods gained 162 votes.
The seat was vacated in 2013 when a district judge ruled former board member Quincy Richard ineligible to hold the seat.
McCrae-Sias will hold the seat until the current term expires in January. Regular school board elections will be held in November.
