McCormick Zatarain's has received approval from the Gretna City Council to proceed with an expansion of its manufacturing plant.
The council approved a proposal Wednesday that calls for demolition of one of three buildings at the site and construction of a new 65,000-square-foot building.
General manager Mike Morris tells The Times-Picayune the project will improve productivity as well as employee safety.
For years, city officials have worked to retain Zatarain's, which has been a part of Gretna since the mid-1960s.
