NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says Louisiana National Guard helicopters have extinguished what appeared to be the last three hot spots from a marsh fire that hazed the city with smoke for most of a week.
He says that means the helicopters and their huge water buckets won't be needed Monday.
Landrieu says the New Orleans Fire Department will check the area three times a day, and the Mosquito Control Board will fly over the area to keep an eye on it in case it flares up.
Officials think that lighting started the fire Aug. 24.
