BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A judge has set a May 9 execution date for Todd Wessinger, who was convicted in 1997 and sentenced to die in the 1995 slaying of two Baton Rouge restaurant employees.

The Advocate reported the date was set Friday for Wessinger by state District Judge Richard Anderson. That came after a federal judge denied Wessinger's bid for a new trial or sentencing.

Wessinger was found guilty of fatally shooting 27-year-old Stephanie Guzzardo and 46-year-old David Breakwell at a now-closed Calendar's Restaurant on Nov. 19, 1995. Wessinger was a former dishwasher at the restaurant.
