The excitement of Mardi Gras is in full swing at parades across the state. But what if you could enjoy all the festivities from the comfort of your own front porch? Well, on Jefferson Street, where many Lafayette parades roll, you'll find one house that makes that part of the tradition.
"Our friend has the best spot in Lafayette," said Scott Rivet.
After 12 years, homeowner Malcolm Hymel still goes all-out with decorations, making Mardi Gras special for his family and friends.
"That's probably the best part about it really. It's just enjoying the fun, or the people. I enjoy the decorating more than anything else," said Hymel.
And when it comes for "mister" to throw them something, they'll catch it.
"We catch a lot more beads then most people do. I mean everyone wants to come and stay on the porch. People down on the street ask, 'can I come up here?' I mean I would sell tickets really if it was big enough," said Hymel.
But this Mardi Gras venue comes with a tradition: To make sure everyone feels welcome.
"The best part about this porch is getting together with friends and having a great time," said Rivet.
