With Mardi Gras parades rolling all over Acadiana, there's a way to get rid of the beads you've collected. The beads will be used for a good cause. The beads will help people with disabilities who work at Arc of Acadiana. Mardi Gras parades mean tons of beads. Workers are hired to sort beads and all the while they're learning skills.
"We get donated beads from the community which in turn what our clients do is sanitize, re-bundle and then re-package the beads," said Director of Lafayette and St. Landry Parish Sherrie Baudoin.
Clients like Bryan Lecompte says he's happy for the opportunity to work.
"The beads get dropped off and we put five in a bag and we sell them and we get paid for it," said Lecompte.
Arc of Acadiana leaders say jobs like this help people with disabilities live life to the fullest.
"They just love doing the beads its always neat to get them in, the colors they're shinny and again it gives them a sense of participating in the community and at the same time learning a skill and getting paid for their work.
The Arc of Acadiana and Lafayette Auto Dealers Association are teaming up for the drive.
You can donate through March 20th.
