BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana governor's mansion is covered in pink light this week, to commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
First lady Supriya Jindal announced Monday that the mansion will be lit pink through Thursday night, the fifth year in a row for the lighting in October.
In a statement, Jindal urged women to have early screenings for breast cancer.
Jindal's office says nearly 227,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year nationwide, about 3,320 in Louisiana.
More information about breast cancer and available screenings are available at the American Cancer Society's website, http://www.cancer.org , or at the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program's website, http://labchp.lsuhsc.edu/ .
