LEMANNVILLE, La. (AP) - An 88-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease has been found dead in an open field in Ascension Parish.
The Sheriff's Office issued a statement Friday identifying the man as Joseph Green, of Donaldsonville. Authorities say Green was reported missing by his son early Thursday. The sheriff's office says Green's son told deputies he awoke and found a back door open and that his father had apparently wandered from their home.
Green's body was found in a nearby field in the rural Lemannville area after a search by deputies, members of the Donaldsonville Fire Department, family and friends.
The Advocate reports that the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office ruled Green's death accidental, caused by hypothermia.
Temperatures early Thursday had dropped into the low 30s.
