Man released from St. Mary Law Enforcement Center dies at hospital

An inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center has died. Anthony Wilson, arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant, was booked into the jail on April 26.
The following day, after collapsing in the common area of his cell block, Wilson was treated at Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center. "The medical staff at Chabert examined Mr. Wilson, ran tests and rendered treatment. Mr. Wilson was returned to the Law Enforcement Center," St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Traci Landry said.

Wilson was put in an observation area where medical staff and correctional officers monitored him, according to Landry. Three days later, on April 30, he became incoherent and was taken to Franklin Foundation Hospital. "The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office released Mr. Wilson from custody to help facilitate his treatment and eliminate the need for transport back to the jail," Landry said. Wilson died later that day at the hospital. Cause of death is unknown.
