OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - A grand jury in St. Landry Parish has indicted a 53-year-old Eunice man in the March slaying of Delores Wilks.
The Advocate reports the indictment, released Thursday, charged Gerald W. Bellard with second-degree murder.
When police arrived at a home in Eunice on March 7, the indictment says they found Wilks lying flat on her back on the living room floor.
Bellard told detectives that Wilks had struck him on the back of his head.
Bellard said he struck back, hitting the victim three times with his fist, which caused her to fall to the living room floor on her back.
It was not clear whether Bellard has an attorney.
