BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 20-year-old Baton Rouge man has been indicted in the June 9 drug-related shooting death of another man.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Thursday charged Jeremy Payne with second-degree murder in the slaying of 31-year-old Curtis Mitchell.
Police tell The Advocate they found Mitchell inside his home with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died from his injuries.
Police said the shooting appears to have been drug related. Police say a drug transaction took place between Mitchell and Payne, but it is not known which man was selling the drugs.
It was unclear whether Payne has an attorney.
