BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been
indicted in the rape and killing of a 29-year-old Zachary woman whose body was found in Monte Sano Bayou in April.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged 43 year-old Franklin Meredith Jr. with aggravated rape and second-degree murder on Thursday in the death of Jennifer Gonzales.
Meredith was sentenced in 1993 to 10 years
in prison for a rape and unauthorized entry of a dwelling. He was arrested June 22nd on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender and was in jail when he was arrested two days later in the death of Gonzales.
It was not immediately known whether Meredith has an attorney.
