Man given 50-year term in deputy shooting

ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - A 25-year-old Lafayette man has been sentenced to 50 years in the 2007 shooting of a Vermilion Parish patrol officer.
Kenneth Clark was sentenced Wednesday on one count of attempted first-degree murder. A trial jury found Clark guilty Aug. 19.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Department said Clark's sentence will run consecutive to a 10-year federal charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, for a total of 60 years.
The shooting occurred during the early morning hours of March 31, 2007, as the officer and his partner were responding to a complaint of a vehicle crash.
