Man convicted in dismemberment killing

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish jurors convict Eric Mickelson of strangling a World War II veteran whose body was dismembered and left in trash containers. They must now decide whether he should die for the first-degree murder of 86-year-old Charles Martin.
Assistant District Attorney Lea Hall tells the Times that evidence against Mickelson was overwhelming, and penalty evidence will be, too.
KSLA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/mWBwo3) that Wednesday's deliberations took about an hour.
The trial began Saturday. Prosecutors said the two went to Martin's house to get money for drugs, and killed him to keep him from telling police.
Mickelson's attorneys argued that he never meant to kill and was under the influence of drugs and Beverly Susan Arthur, who also is charged with first-degree murder. Her trial has not yet been scheduled.
