A St. Martin Parish man has been convicted of a nearly 30-year-old rape. It took a jury only three-and-a-half hours to convict Michael Thomas of aggravated rape. Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars said that the incident took place in 1984. However, the victim came forward only two years ago. Thomas will spend the rest of life behind bars without benefit of parole.
Cedars says Thomas's brother, Jerome, was convicted last summer of two counts of aggravated rape. One of those counts stemmed from an incident involving the same victim in the Michael Thomas case. However, he says all counts stemmed from separate cases.
