VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - The Evangeline Parish district attorney
says a 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years at hard labor
after confessing to more than 100 burglaries.
District Attorney Trent Brignac says James Anthony Fontenot
pleaded guilty to nine burglaries to avoid being charged as a
habitual offender, which could have meant a life term.
He says Fontenot stole from unlocked cars and homes, and took
only cash and easily fenced items such as electronics.
Authorities say the burglaries began in November - shortly after
Fontenot completed an eight-year sentence - and continued until his
arrest in January.
