SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A man claiming to be a booking agent for Grammy-nominated R&B singer Keyshia Cole is in custody for stealing money from a college student trying to hire her for an event.
Caddo Parish sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick says 25-year-old Percy Pittman, of Petal, Miss., was arrested Wednesday for felony theft. It was not known if he has an attorney.
Authorities say the victim gave Pittman $750 in December on a contract to hire Cole to perform for an AIDS benefit at an area college. Chadwick says Pittman told the victim he was a booking agent who had contact with Cole and her agent.
An investigation, however, found the contract to be fraudulent.
The victim had agreed to pay an additional $6,300 to have Cole perform. Pittman was to get $3,000 on Wednesday, but instead was arrested.
