A Centerville man is in jail after he allegedly threw a puppy into the Bayou Teche during a domestic dispute. The incident took place at a home in the 100 block of Sydney Lane. Investigators say Stephen Charpentier began fighting with a woman and cursing at three children in the house. Deputies say the fight culminated with Charpentier picking up the dog and tossing it into the bayou, but Charpentier's wife, Tina, says that's not true. Tina says during the commotion with her husband, the puppy was frightened and ran into the bayou. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office says the puppy is fine.

Charpentier is charged with domestic abuse battery in the presence of juveniles, simple criminal damage to property, and cruelty to animals. No bond has been set.
