Charges were reduced for a man who was facing attempted forcible rape and home invasion charges. In a plea deal, Jason Barras, 44, pleaded no contest to his reduced charge of simple burglary.
Barras was accused of trying to rape an Abbeville woman at a house in which they were both guests. According to court records, Barras pleaded no contest "to avoid the possibility of being convicted and sentenced to a heavier sentence."
He's ordered to have no contact with the victim and is sentenced to serve six years in prison. Barras has been in jail since May 2012 and receives credit for time already served.
