Sheriff Louis Ackal advises that on Wednesday, May 15, at approximately 4:15 p.m dispatchers with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office recieved a call of a bomb threat. Information recieved by dispatchers was that a bomb was placed at the court house. Due to the caller not specifying which court house, City or Parish, both buildings were evacuated and searched by deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office and New Iberia City Fire Department for any suspicious items. No items resembiling an explosive device were located in either building.
Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were able to locate and identify a suspect within two hours of the initial call. Detectives arrested Mario Jackson DOB 06-29-1988 of 920 Park Avenue, New Iberia. Jackson was taken into custody at that residence and charged with false communication of a planned arson and also an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for Drug Court. Jackson was then booked into the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.
