A 58-year-old Westlake man is accused of 4th offense DWI for the second time.
According to a news release, on August 23, at 10:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy Larry Cormier conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Davis Road and Goss Road in Westlake after noticing a pick-up truck swerving onto the shoulder and into the opposing lane of travel several times.
David G. Prater, 58, 825 Goss Road, of Westlake, had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, along with slurred speech and he appeared very unsteady on his feet, according to Deputy Cormier.
Prater allegedly refused to perform a standard field sobriety test and also refused to submit a breath intoxilyzer test. Prater, who was convicted of vehicular homicide and DWI 4th in Calcasieu Parish in 2006, was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 4th; careless operation; and no driver's license.
Bond was set at $252,000.
