On September 3, 2010, at approximately 7:00 am, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Lafayette in conjunction with the United States Coast Guard, arrested a John Paul Thomas (26) who was working off the Louisiana coast. Thomas was wanted by the Lafayette Police Department for alleged Attempted Rape and Aggravated Burglary from an incident that occurred within the City of Lafayette in December of 2009.
Thomas was arrested by members of the task force with supported from the Coast Guard's Air Support and Fast Boat Boarding Vessel. He was arrested while working offshore near Grand Isle Louisiana for an Acadiana based company. Thomas was arrested without incident. Detectives who work the case accredit the Acadiana Crime Lab for expediting the processing of valuable evidence which was instrumental in developing the case.
