BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - A man originally believed to be a passenger in a vehicle that plunged off the Belle Chasse Bridge has been arrested on allegations of being the driver.
State police say 28-year-old Edwin Juarez was arrested Saturday on two counts of negligent homicide. The victims were 31-year-old Jose Gustavo Reyes and 29-year-old Ronaldo Jimenez.
Juarez was booked into the Plaquemines Parish Jail. It couldn't be determined if he had an attorney.
Reyes was originally believed to be the driver of a sport utility vehicle that hit a concrete barrier, jumped over the edge and crashed 40 feet below.
Troopers say Juarez and another man sustained minor injuries.
