At this hour, the driver arrested and accused of killing a Lafayette woman in a drunk driving accident is in the process of bonding out of jail. Fred Dutton Jr. was arrested on a warrant for vehicular homicide Tuesday night. He was initially charged with OWI, but the charge was upgraded after toxicology test results showed his alcohol level was over the legal .08 limit. Since the investigation is ongoing, Lafayette Police Dept. spokesperson Cpl. Paul Mouton would not release Dutton's blood alcohol content.
Dutton is accused of running a red light and colliding with 23-year-old Rachael Sonnier's car just after 1:00 Thanksgiving morning. She died at the scene. Dutton's bond is $25,000.
