A Vermilion Parish man charged in a January accident that killed three people was in court Tuesday, but this trial for Todd Vincent is a completely different case. Vincent is facing his second offense driving while under the influence. Court records show this is his third DWI charge in three years.
In June of 2008, Vincent was arrested for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and possession of drugs with the intent to sell but the State dropped those charges.
Tuesday's trial is for an incident that happened in July of 2008. Officers testified Vincent admitted to having three beers and taken a Xanax, which was prescribed by his doctor. Officers also said he failed his field sobriety tests.
Then in November of that same year Vincent was involved in a two car vehicle crash. He told police he had smoked marijuana and taken Oxycontin. Vincent pled no contest to that charge. He was fined and put on probation.
Earlier this year Vincent allegedly caused this deadly head-on collision in St. Mary Parish. The wreck left a Franklin man, his sister and her teenage daughter dead. Vincent faces three counts of vehicular homicide, drug possession and a host of other charges.
Meantime, if Vincent is found guilty on his July incident it would be his second DWI offense. His trial will start back up at 8 Wednesday morning.
