A Carencro man is charged with DWI in connection with the crash that claimed the life of former KATC anchor William "Bill" Leger.

Leger was involved in two separate crashes along LA Highway 93 early this morning. Troopers say the first crash happened when Leger's vehicle ran off the road, overturned and then came to rest in the middle of the roadway. His vehicle was then struck by a vehicle driven by 52 year old Clint Melancon of Carencro.

Melancon's blood alcohol level tested over the legal limit and he was booked into the Lafayette Parish jail for first offense DWI.

The crash remains under investigation.

Leger worked as an anchor at KATC during the late 1980's and early 1990's. He was currently working in Beaumont, Texas. He's survived by his wife, two daughters, and his parents.
