Man arrested for attempted 2nd degree murder

Opelousas police have arrested a man after an altercation between two men lead to a shooting.

Police say, just before 7pm two men were play a dice game when a fight broke out between them. When police arrived on scene they found 32-year-old Timothy Reed of Opelousas suffering from a gunshot wound in his left arm. The suspect identified as 27-year-old Jermaine Andrus of Opelousas left the scene. Officers later found Andrus traveling on East Jefferson Street. He was taken into custody without incident. Andrus was booked into the Opelousas city jail on charges of attempted 2nd degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Meanwhile, the victim remains in the hospital tonight where he is awaiting surgery. Police say he is considered in stable and his injuries are non-life threatening.
