Man arrested for allegedly breaking into post office lockers

A Pine Prairie man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into parcel lockers at the post office in Pine Prairie.

A total of nine parcel lockers were robbed during three incidents beginning in November 2013, Pine Prairie Police Department Assistant Chief Chauncy Fontenot said.

After the third burglary on Feb. 25, Jacob Carl Montie, 28, 1722 Fourth St., Pine Prairie, was identified as a suspect. He confessed to the burglaries during an interview, Fontenot said.

The stolen items, including three sets of U.S. Mint coins, clothing, make up and gourmet coffee were found at Montie's home, Fontenot said.

Montie was arrested for burglary of a post office and theft of over $300 on Feb. 26 and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail. His bond was set for $12,500. The case is currently under investigation by the U.S. Postal Service.
