Press Release: On August 18, 2010 Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Jawyne Keiwane Sweat for attempted armed robbery.
Sweat was wanted for the attempted robbery that occurred on August 14, 2010. The details of the incident are as follows. The victim was standing in a front yard on the 400 block of Deare Street. The victim then stated he was approached by the suspect who asked for change of a one hundred dollar bill. The victim stated as he reached into his pocket the suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money. According to the victim, he began to struggle with the suspect. The victim stated during the struggle, the suspect allegedly bit him twice and attempted to cock the handgun and shoot him. A witness came from a nearby residence that had heard the struggle and assisted the victim. The witness was able to take the handgun from the suspect. The victim then stated the suspect then fled on foot towards Fontelieu Street. The suspect was identified as Jawayne Deiwane Sweat. Deputies recovered the semi-automatic handgun that was allegedly used in the attempted robbery.
On the 18th Deputies learned that Sweat was in the area of Deare and Fontelieu Streets. Deputies located Sweat hiding in a bedroom of a residence on the 400 block of Deare Street. Sweat was then transported to the Iberia Parish Jail where he was booked in for attempted armed robbery. Sweat is being held on a $50,000 bond.
