CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - A Violet man has been arrested after he
allegedly struck his pit bull four times with a baseball bat and
plunged a sword through its neck because it messed in his bedroom.
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Chief Deputy James Pohlmann says it
happened Tuesday after 29-year-old Ralph J. Topey III came home
from a night of drinking.
Pohlmann says Topey told a relative that the dog had made a
mess. The woman says she then saw a trail of blood and found the
dog in the bathroom. The dog is recovering from facial fractures
and a neck wound.
The Times Picayune reported Friday that Topey was booked with
aggravated cruelty to an animal. He's being held in lieu of $65,000
bond.
Both weapons used in the alleged attack were recovered.
