AMELIA, La. (AP) - St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert says a 25-year-old Amelia man allegedly kidnapped, hit and robbed a woman, then allegedly hit a deputy with his car. Hebert says the woman had bruises, black eyes and a cut lip. The deputy's finger was cut.
Hebert says Israel Vazquez Garza was jailed Wednesday on 10 counts including kidnapping, battery, robbery, aggravated assault on a peace officer with a motor vehicle, and criminal damage to property.
He says the woman told a deputy Garza forced her into a vehicle at gunpoint, drove her somewhere, hit her and took her phone.
Hebert says the deputy found Garza and tried to talk but Garza allegedly put his vehicle in gear, hitting the deputy and squad car.
It was not clear whether he had an attorney.
