LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Authorities say a former Lake Charles man is accused of stealing nearly $292,000 from a local construction company.
Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, tells the American Press 53-year-old Mark W. Karkowski, who now lives in Morro Bay, Calif., is accused of making unauthorized purchases of furniture, art, vehicles and several other items with a F. Miller Construction company credit card.
Investigators said the purchases were made between May 2009 and April 2011. They also said he collected nearly $110,000 from the sale of scrap iron owned by the company.
Myers said Karkowski reportedly submitted false invoices to his employer and misrepresented himself as the owner or co-owner of the company to local businesses.
Korkowski is in a California Jail awaiting extradition to Louisiana.
