Man accused of "car hopping" to steal from hotel guests

On Wednesday May 1, 2013 at approx. 10:27 p.m., Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to 825 Broad Street (Howard Johnson Hotel) in reference to a suspicious black male walking in the parking lot. The subject was wearing pajama pants and a white t-shirt pulling on door handles of vehicles. 

Upon arrival at this business, Corporal Treadway located the suspicious male on the property and noticed he was carrying items.  When Corporal Treadway attempted to make contact with the suspicious male, he dropped the items he was carrying and began walking away.  Officer G. Benoit made contact and detained the suspicious male later identified as Michael Hagger. 

Detective M. Nicosia was called to the scene to assist in the investigation which revealed that Michael Hagger was in the process of "Car Hopping" at 825 Broad Street when confronted by Lake Charles Police Officers.  The items Hagger had been carrying and discarded when confronted by Officers came out of a vehicle in the 900 block of South Division Street. 

Hagger allegedly went into a vehicle and removed several items without the victim's permission.  Corporal W. Ponthieux, Corporal D. Fontenot, Corporal M. Brunet, and Officer P. Ross assisted with this incident.  Detective M. Nicosia handled the follow up investigation.

Charges booked on:
Simple Burglary of a motor vehicle, bond $2,500.00.
Theft from a motor vehicle, bond $2,500.00.
Resisting an Officer, bond $1,500.00.
Possession of drug paraphernalia, bond $1,500.00.
Total bond: $8,000.00
