Man accused in Charenton shootings indicted

A St. Mary Parish Grand Jury indicted Wilbert Thibodeaux, the man accused of killing a Charenton Police Officer and a Charenton man in January. Thibodeaux is indicted on two counts of first degree murder, two counts of attempted first degree murder and one count of simple arson.

He's accused of shooting to death Chitimacha Tribal Sgt. Rick Riggenbach and 79-year-old Eddie Lyons. Lyons' body was found inside a burned mobile home, believed to be set by Thibodeaux. Also, Thibodeaux is accused of shooting and wounding two St. Mary Parish sheriff's deputies.

Thibodeaux is in a mental ward at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel.
