The Lafayette Parish School Board has approved a nearly $2.1 million plan for an academic and physical makeover of Northside High School.
Melinda Voorhies, who is starting Friday as the school's interim principal, said she and her team will "hit the ground running,"
The academic plan includes additional staffing, which new Superintendent Pat Cooper has described as a "SWAT team" to help jump-start a turnaround in the next four months. The SWAT team will include a dean of students, extra counselor, a full-time nurse, a classroom management strategist and a graduation coach
The school is the lowest-performing high school in the district and is in danger of a state takeover.
The board voted 7-1 Wednesday to approve the academic plan for the school.
