ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The list of displaced teachers in Rapides Parish public schools is shrinking.
The Town Talk reports most of the educators placed on the list two months ago as a result of the budget crisis affecting the district are going back to work.
According to Superintendent Gary Jones, some positions became vacant over the summer, allowing the administration to recall displaced employees.
Jones said last week that 44 out of 57 displaced teachers had been placed back in teaching positions, leaving 13 pending reassignment.
Displaced teachers are those who are tenured teachers, still employed by the district, but who had not been assigned to a position.
