Your thoughts: BATON ROUGE- An LSU student is planning to burn an American flag on the school's campus today as part of a peaceful protest.
Benjamin Haas, a communications studies graduate student, says he's burning the flag in support of Isaac Eslava.
Eslava is charged with taking the school's American flag and burning it hours after the death of Osama bin Laden was announced last week.
Haas says Eslava was expressing his right to freedom of speech when he burned the flag and should not have been arrested.
Haas has reportedly followed university procedure in seeking clearance to host the flag-burning protest today at noon.
LSU's student government president Cody Wells says he and others plan to hold their own counter ceremony an hour after the protest, saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the national anthem.
Wells says his assembly is not related to or sponsored by LSU's student government, but by him "as an individual."
