SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - LSU Health Shreveport has lost what
amounts to a $25.6 million savings account because of state budget woes.
It is reported that state health officials will use federal money generated by LSU Health Shreveport hospital operations to replace state general funds in the state
Health and Hospitals Department budget. In the past, the health system, which oversees hospitals in Shreveport, Monroe and Pineville, used the money to fill budget gaps when funding was available.
LSU Health Shreveport started the year with plans to fill a $12.8 million budget shortfall. Vice chancellor Hugh Mighty says it is still working with a plan to reduce expenses and increase revenue, adopted at the start of the budget year.
