LSU graduation rate reaches nearly 67 percent

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU's graduation rate has hit an all-time high, with nearly 67 percent of its students completing their course work in six years.

The Baton Rouge university's Office of Budget and Planning announced the latest data Wednesday, saying the graduation rate is higher than the average of its peers in the South.

Twenty years ago, the flagship campus reported a six-year graduation rate of 39.4 percent. Now, it's reached 66.7 percent, up from 61.9 percent a year earlier.

During that time, LSU changed from an open-enrollment school to a campus with admission standards that limit what type of students can attend.

LSU Chancellor William Jenkins praised the faculty, staff and students for the improvement, saying the indicator shows the school is moving in the right direction.
