LSU-Eunice Softball Take Two In Opening Day of Lamar State Tournament

The LSU Eunice softball team grabbed two wins in their opening day of play at the Lamar State Tournament on Friday, beating Baton Rouge Community College 7-0 before coming back to beat Murray State 9-1 in the nightcap.
As the case has been all year, the Lady Bengals (14-2) saw lights-out pitching in the circle and powerful bats at the plate.
In the opener against Baton Rouge, LSU Eunice jumped on the board with five runs in the top first inning before adding their final two runs in the second frame.
Brooke Thomas and Brooke Ort led off the game with back-to-back walks before Emily Nolan stepped in and connected on a three-run homer to left field. Brooke Clark and Taylor Simon followed Nolan with back-to-back doubles, with Clark scoring on Simon's hit.
Simon would come home two batters later on an RBI groundout by Randi Vosburg for the final run of the first.
Clark and Ort led off the second inning similar to the first frame, both reaching before Thomas was brought home on Kelsey Hollier's RBI double. Ort scampered home two batters later when Clark connected on a sacrifice flyout.
The seven run lead was more than enough for the Lady Bengal pitching combination of Julienne Broussard and Elizabeth Delafield, who combined for the complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and zero walks with nine total strikeouts.
Codi Covington also finished with two hits for the Lady Bengals.
The nightcap belonged to starter Brooklyn Guillot, who racked up nine strikeouts, including striking out the side in the second inning, and allowing just three hits and zero walks.
Offensively, LSU Eunice scored four runs in the first inning, three in the third inning and two in the fourth in the shortened, five inning game.
Nolan connected on and RBI single and Caitlen Blanchard brought home her first RBI via a sacrifice fly in that first inning, while Blanchard's big shot came in the third, when she blasted a three-run homer to dead center field to bust the game open.
Clark added an RBI triple in the fourth before Carey Alexis brought her home with an RBI sacrifice fly to cap the game's scoring.
Clark finished the second game 3-for-3, while Blanchard was joined by Nolan, Alexis and Brooke Rozas with one hit.
The Lady Bengals return on Saturday when they play Cisco Community College at 11 a.m. before taking on tournament host Lamar State at 3 p.m. in their final game.
